We all have idolized a particular celebrity at some stage or the other in life. Their lifestyle, achievements and even physical demeanor has been aspirational for all- young and old alike. Today, social media has made it even easier to watch and follow their lives and events. After all, celebrities are human too and they have to fight the many battles in life just like us. Take inspiration from these celebrities who have successfully picked up the pieces of their lives even after suffering from a critical illness.
1. Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh is remembered for his battle with cancer as much as he is for his historic over full of sixes. He won the Player of the Tournament award at the World Cup in 2011 and soon after he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left lung. In spite of suffering from bouts of blood vomiting, nausea and breathing issues and undergoing chemotherapy to treat Stage 1 cancer he successfully returned to the T20 World.
2. Halle Berry
If looks were everything, one could never tell Halle berry has been battling Type 1 Diabetes all her life. Known to be fatal this disease is incurable and can only be controlled with periodical boosts of insulin. Apart from winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 and becoming the first black American to win the Miss World Competition, she has been tackling this deadly disease by eating right exercising regularly.
3. Angelina Jolie
Celebrities undergo the same stress and struggle as us when they face a chronic illness but sometimes it can also help to raise awareness about the disease. When Angelina Jolie announced that she had undergone a double mastectomy to fight the risk for breast cancer in 2013, this disease suddenly caught attention. It also urged other women celebrities to come forward and talk about the issue. Researchers even dubbed this syndrome as The Angelina Effect.
4. Tom Hanks
Hanks openly announced in a TV show that had been dealing with high blood sugar levels for years and suffers from Type 2 Diabetes. Since his body is incapable of absorbing his blood sugar levels it puts him at an increased risk for heart disease, nerve damage, blindness and kidney failure. He is however fighting the disease with regular exercise and a healthy diet so that his life as an actor is not hampered.
5. Anurag Basu
The setback of a chronic illness brought the best in the celebrated filmmaker Anurag Basu. Had he not fought blood cancer and his 50% chance of survival like a champ, chances are the movie Barfi would have never seen the light of the day. He was diagnosed with acute pyroelectric leukemia which is a type of blood cancer in 2004. He fought the disease and the painful treatment by writing the scripts for for Life In A Metro and Gangster.
